Presented By

Region VI

Welcome to the 2024 Western Regional Conference

Dear NASPA Western Regional Conference Attendees,

We are thrilled to welcome you to this year's conference in San Diego, CA, on behalf of the NASPA Western Regional Conference Committee. As we gather this year, we recognize the various issues affecting our institutions - from geopolitical conflict abroad to domestic elections and everything in between. While there is understandable apprehension about an uncertain future and shifting horizons our students may face, I am confident in the resiliency of our colleagues and the student affairs profession to navigate them successfully as we have always done.

Our time together will be a chance to be in community, create space to celebrate achievements, and strengthen connections to further our work supporting and transforming students. We hope this conference provides the ideal environment for your heart, for your healing, and the creation of joyful intention.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Call for Programs

The theme of this year’s conference is “Navigating New Horizons and Strengthening Communities with Heart, Healing & Intention”. Vital to our work as student affairs professionals, we navigate different spaces while looking for solutions in various institutional horizons. We are intentional with our efforts to enhance the lives of students and move post-secondary educational goals forward; while also navigating our own communities and lead with Heart and Intention. In San Diego, these navigational nuances can be challenging and we hope we are able to come together and heal as a community of Student Affairs Professionals. We are especially interested in program submissions that provide opportunities for professionals to connect, converse, dismantle barriers to equity, develop new skills, honor our authentic selves, and be invigorated by our work.

For questions or updates, please contact Dr. Renzo Lara or Dr. Kenny Lopez at [email protected].

The deadline for program submission is EXTENDED until July 19, 2024 at 11:59pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST)

Assessment Institute (NEW)
This assessment workshop will introduce practices to integrate culturally responsive assessment practices at each stage of the assessment cycle. Come to learn about the assessment cycle for the first time or come to learn about culturally responsive assessment in particular. But we don’t stop with assessment, we also introduce a new framework on how to become an anti-racist data practitioner or data consumer. Whether you work with data directly or consume data produced by others, this workshop will help you learn how to interpret minoritized student outcomes without using white student outcomes as a point of comparison.

Across numerous institutions of higher education and in various positions, these professionals help to bring the mission and vision of their institutions to life.  The institute will take a strengths-based, collaborative approach to address the following issues of the mid-level professional experience:

  • Leverage intergenerational strength and foster understanding and cooperation among teams.
