Tag Me In That: Networked Publics & Student Identity Development
Virtual Live Briefings
December 15, 2020 3:00PM-4:00PM ET
Social media platforms define the recent contemporary moment as higher education faces specific emphasis on online connection. Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, campus communities grapple with the meaning of existing in a digital college community and what role higher education professionals should play. Supported by a rich foundation of online student development theory, educators can intentionally support students on the digital campus by moving beyond program marketing and towards digital campus citizenship.
Attendees of this webinar will learn how to:
- Define “networked publics” and understand how students, staff, and faculty operate within them.
- Explain two to three aspects of digital student identity development, including social firewalls that negatively affect students with historically marginalized identities in online communities.
- Understand how student affairs professionals can navigate networked publics and foster intentional student development online
