What role can student affairs administrators play in furthering student activists' learning and development? This session will provide an overview of behavioral, developmental, and social-cognitive learning outcomes of participating in activism on a college campus, and examine the challenges faced by student affairs practitioners when engaging with student activists.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • define what activism means to them;
  • list at least one way in which activism plays a role in students' development;
  • outline challenges and/or barriers to engagement with student activists on campus; and
  • describe the tension between functioning as an institutional agent and as an agent for social justice.
