First-Generation College Celebration

2019 #CelebrateFirstGen

Student Success
November 20, 2019   |  1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

In 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-generation Student Success launched the inaugural First-Generation College Celebration! Given the overwhelming success of this event in 2017 and 2018, COE and the Center now partner to make this celebration an annual event.

The 2019 First-Generation College Celebration was a roaring success. To continue the momentum COE and the Center will host South Mountain Community College, Texas Tech University, and West Virginia University Institute of Technology to discuss how they participated in #CelebrateFirstGen. Join us in advancing an asset-based national narrative on first-generation student experiences and outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this session, participants will:

  • understand how to begin and grow celebration efforts, promoting the first-gen identity and accomplishments;

  • learn how to identify and collaborate with campus and community partners; and

  • begin processing plans for the 2020 national celebration.
