Updates: LKC Gender Identity & Expression Inclusion Efforts

Greeting LKC membership,

We are thinking of all those negatively impacted by the recent changes, uncertainties, and stressors of the concerning decision made by the current presidential administration. While we cannot tell the future, we hope that our nation can come together to fight for true justice for all people.

Below you will find updates regarding the LKC Gender Identity and Expression Inclusion efforts.

Recording & Updated Script of the  “LKC Gender Identity & Expression Survey Review and Results” Webinar

Thank you to those who joined us on Monday, December 12th for the “LKC Gender Identity & Expression Survey Review and Results” Webinar. We have been working for several weeks to get the recording of the webinar uploaded to the NASPA Learning Community. Unfortunately there have been technical glitches. Emergent Themes & Strategic Subgroup Updates:

Name Change Subgroup Update:

The Name Change Subgroup was charged with making a recommendation to the LKC Chairs by the end of December. Based on the great work done by the group, the LKC Chairs have decided to propose that the name of the Latino/a KC be change to Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community . The NASPA board will be voting to approve this prior to the national conference in San Antonio where a formal announcement will be made.

Updated Timeline through May 2017:

Mid- February: Education Subgroup to compile educational resources on gender identity and expression for the LKC membership to review.

February: Notification to go out to NASPA LKC Members outlining various recommendations.

March: Annual Conference. Look out for these opportunities:

Monday, March 13th: LKC Gender Identity & Expression Inclusion Processing Space

1-2pm, Location: Marriott Rivercenter Conference Room 7

Tuesday, March 14th: Session: At a Crossroads: Examining the Implications of the Latino/a KC Gender Identity & Expression Survey

12:10- 1pm: Room/Venue: 006 A - Convention Center

April/ May: Debrief/ listening spaces scheduled after the the annual conference space to allow any and all NASPA members to engage with LKC Leadership around the recommendations.
