Simply Thankful

"We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction." -H.A. Ironside

As we enter the season that is mostly noted as the “Most wonderful time of the year” I wanted to simply remind all of us that we must be thankful for the opportunities that we have to share our respective talents with thousands of some of the brightest minds in America, each day.  It shouldn’t be something we take for granted, as regardless of what our role is on our respective campuses, we are called to go above and beyond for our students often.  While I’m sure you could gripe about some things relative to your job, hopefully you have twice as many things you are grateful for.  I’m thankful for the relationships that I have been able to foster with students, with colleagues on campus, and colleagues across the country.  It’s through this wonderful organization that is NASPA (and more importantly NASPA IV-West), that I understand that I’m never on an island alone, and that help (in whatever manner that may be) is only a phone call or Facetime (Team iPhone) away.  The love, support and encouragement that comes from those you value should always be cherished.  I’m thankful for my family who supports my efforts even when that may require me to be away from them more times than often.  But most of all I’m thankful for the opportunity to positively impact lives daily and it is something that I don’t take for granted.  Each of us should delight in the fact that the work we do MATTERS and for that we should all be thankful!  Happy Holidays!
