NASPA IV-W NPI Faculty - Mr. Quy Nguyen

The New Professionals Institute (NPI) final installment of featuring the faculty behind this year’s institute, let me introduce you to Mr. Quy Nguyen who will sharing his bio, background and experiences.

I have been a Student Affairs professional since the spring of 2006.  Like many individuals, I did not know that this field even existed but as I started becoming more actively involved with campus life. I realized the great opportunity to work in this profession.  Those formative years as a student helped me to become a better version of myself through the programs I was involved with, and most importantly, the development from faculty and staff.  I knew I had to find a way to give back to a field that had helped students like me.

I have had the opportunity to work with various communities during my time in Student Affairs.  From campus programming, to orientation, to multicultural programs and services to scholarships, I have seen how students are similar to one another but also how different they all are from each other.  They have all come to us with their own stories and struggles, with the hope that obtaining a college degree will enhance their lives.  I have been amazed at the resiliency of our students who have succeeded when all the odds are against them.  Conversely, I have been saddened to see students fail because all the odds are against them.  As Student Affairs professionals, we are in a unique position to ensure that we are there for the students who need the support to succeed.

I am honored to be a part of a field of professionals who put students first, who care about marginalized populations, who advocate for on their behalf, and who develop students to be the best versions of themselves with the goal of academic achievement.  I am also thankful to work in a field where I am challenged daily and where students continue to teach me more than I will ever be able to teach them.  The work is hard but is incredibly rewarding.  I look forward to working with you all and to seeing how you all will grow from young professional to seasoned veterans and the work you will do to make sure we provide the best resources for all students to succeed.

NPI is an opportunity for student affairs professionals who have been in the field for 5 years or less to network, learn, and grow together. True to the conference theme, NPI is essential to strengthening and building pathways to continue and foster the future of the profession.
