Throughout its history, American higher education has been called upon to prepare students for citizenship and leadership in a democratic society. In spite of this tradition, there is mounting and widespread evidence that many Americans lack the skills, knowledge, and abilities to act as informed, active participants in their communities and in society.
NASPA is committed to encouraging and highlighting the work
of student affairs in making civic learning and democratic engagement a part of every student's higher education experience through its Lead Initiative on Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement.
