2024 NASPA REGION III/SACSA MID-MANAGERS INSTITUTE

Division/Group Events Supporting the Profession Region III AVP or "Number Two" Faculty Mid-Level Senior Level VP for Student Affairs

The Mid-Managers Institute (MMI) is a focused and unique professional development experience presented by a partnership between SACSA and NASPA Region III. It offers an opportunity for mid-level professionals to enhance and develop the skills, relationships, and dispositions that distinguish them in the profession and enables them to make more meaningful contributions to the people and programs they serve. The cost to attend is $750 (SACSA/NASPA Member) or $900 (Non-Member). Fee includes institute materials, lodging, and meals once onsite. You are responsible for your own transportation to and from Wilmington, NC.

About MMI

What is the Mid-Managers Institute? 

The Mid-Managers Institute is an application-based program with focused and unique professional development experiences sponsored by SACSA and NASPA Region III. It offers an opportunity for mid-level professionals to enhance and develop the skills, relationships, and dispositions that distinguish them in the profession, and enables them to make more meaningful contributions to the people and programs they serve.

Participants have the opportunity to learn from faculty mentors, guest presenters, and their mid-level colleagues. Past topics included: managing from the middle, navigating politics and campus climate, strategic planning, synergy between academic affairs and student affairs, professional competencies, and career planning. Participants leave with strategies and skills that will make an impact when they return to campus.

The Mid-Managers Institute is designed for individuals with at least five years of experience as a full-time professional with supervisory responsibility of one or more units and professional staff.

There are two steps to successfully apply for the Mid-Manger’s Institute.

Step Two: Letter of Recommendation by your Senior Student Affairs Officer due March 1, 2024

This is your official application form. Please note the following required within the form: personal reflection, headshot, and a resume.

 

This form can be submitted by either you or your SSAO on campus. Be sure to plan ahead and ensure a letter of recommendation can be submitted by the deadline.

 

In your applicant application, you will be prompted to enter their contact information. An email will generate to that SSAO. Be sure to communicate with them to be aware and to check spam if they cannot see it. 



 

Notification of Acceptance will occur on March 15th, 2024 (subject to change). Your application will be considered incomplete if both are not submitted by March 1, 2024.

 

Role of Faculty

What Is The Role of Faculty?

The 2024 Mid-Manager’s Institute is currently seeking senior student affairs professionals from Region III/SACSA to serve as the faculty mentors for the institute participants. Each faculty member will lead a cluster of 8-10 participants through the institute and serve as their mentor, facilitate small group discussions, and lead a presentation on a specific topic during the institute. The Institute will cover transportation and travel expenses and all faculty will stay on the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus. Faculty must be able to commit for the entirety of the institute.

Lodging and Meals On-Site

For lodging, participants are required to stay in an apartment-style complex (Seahawk Landing) on the campus of UNC Wilmington. It is a 4-bedroom apartment-style, with individual bedrooms. Only two participants are assigned in each apartment, allowing you to have your own private bedroom, bathroom, and section of the apartment. Each apartment has a washer/dryer, a kitchen, and a living room. MMI covers meals, but participants should plan on covering one meal on their own (during an excursion) while on site.

1. Do I need to provide my own lodging? No. The cost includes institute materials, lodging, and meals once on site. You are responsible for your transportation to and from Wilmington, NC. 3. What meals are covered? Every meal is covered, with the exception on the meal on your own timeblock.
