Success Coaching Knowledge Community

The mission of the Success Coaching Knowledge Community (SCKC) is to support student affairs educators in creating and implementing standardized definitions, practices, and processes for success coaching in higher education. The SCKC provides the opportunity for student affairs professionals to receive professional development, training, and resources to support the success coaching efforts on their campuses.

Through this community, we strive to create a collaborative environment for student affairs professionals to share resources, network and discuss ideas centered on new and emerging trends in success coaching within higher education. The SCKC welcomes professionals from all levels within the field of higher education and encourages anyone interested in success coaching to join our community. Vision

The vision of the Success Coaching Knowledge Community is to create a space for professionals to convene and share key resources related to success coaching, which has demonstrable potency for promoting student success outcomes. We envision this Knowledge Community contributing to the development of key competencies for professionals to successfully apply in their work coaching students.

SCKC is proud to introduce our first awards ceremony at NASPA's 2024 Annual Conference in Seattle on Monday, March 11 from 5:30pm - 7pm PST in Hyatt Regency 301-Ashnola. Success Coach of the Year

Success Coach of the Year 

This award recognizes a professional or graduate student that has shown innovation above and beyond the role as a professional mentor or coach within the field of success coaching. This award recognizes a success coach that has shown innovation above and beyond the role as a coach within the student affairs field, including but not limited to student support, student impact, program assessment and evaluation, community building, marketing, research, and more.  

 Eligibility 

  • Faculty, administrators, graduate students, and other professionals in student affairs and higher education will be encouraged to apply1. 

  • Nominees must have at least one academic year of experience in success coaching. 

  • Nominees must demonstrate their unique contributions to success coaching to enhance the life of their students 

  • Nominees must demonstrate the adherence of NASPA professional standards while advancing the field of success coaching 

  • Submissions may represent self-application or nomination. 

 Award 

  • The Success Coach of the Year award will be presented at the 2024 Annual Conference in Seattle.

Nomination Form Information

Nominators or applicants will be asked to provide the following information for the recipient to be considered for this award: 

  • Length of time as a Success Coach 

  • Brief citation (100-word limit): Summary describing the achievements of the nominee and how they meet the criteria. In writing the citation copy, please compose it to be read aloud easily at the awards ceremony. 

Award Rationale 
  • How has the nominee demonstrated the criteria listed in the award description? 

  • Evidence that shows how the individual went above and beyond the role of success coach. 

  • Nominees must articulate the extraordinary impact on the lives of their students through their work as a success coach.  

  • Two or more letters of support from supervisor, colleagues, employees, or students supporting the nomination. 

 Selection 

  • The award recipient will be selected based on the merit of the award, their alignment to NASPA and the SCKC’s values, and impact of their work.

Commitment to the Profession

Commitment to the Profession 

This award recognizes a student affairs practitioner working in the field of success coaching who has: 

  • made innovative contributions that support the holistic development of those within the communities they work with 

  • represented and advocated for the varying needs of students in this continually changing landscape of higher education 

  • established themself as a leader in their department and work, becoming the go-to person for those they help serve 

 Eligibility 

  • Administrators and other professionals in student affairs and higher education will be encouraged to apply2. 

  • Nominees must have at least threeyears of experience in higher education and/or student affairs. 

  • Nominees must demonstrate their unique contributions to success coaching while enhancing the holistic development of their department, students, and/or adjacent communities. 

  • Nominees must demonstrate the adherence of NASPA professional standards while advancing the field of success coaching 

  • Submissions may represent self-application or nomination. 

 Award 

  • The Commitment to the Profession award will be presented at the 2024 Annual Conference in Seattle.

Outstanding Program of the Year

Outstanding Program of the Year  

This award seeks to honor two high performing teams that embody one of the most important tenets of successful coaching programs and services: collaboration. High performing teams use the individual talents of team members to overcome obstacles and make progress toward the team’s or unit’sgoals to support their students through coaching. These teams are innovative, adapting their services/processes when necessary to meet the changing needs of today’s students. This program or service has changed the landscape of the university and of the student body by highlighting the importance towards coaching. 

Eligibility 

  • Teams must be from institutions that are NASPA members. 

  • Nominees must demonstrate the adherence of NASPA professional standards while advancing the field of success coaching. 

  • Teams do not have to be members of the same department but must be a group of employees working towards a shared vision. 

  • The nominees must demonstrate how they have changed the landscape of the university and of the student body by highlighting the importance of coaching. 

  • Nominees must demonstrate their unique contributions to success coaching while enhancing the holistic development of their department, students, and/or adjacent communities. 

  • Describe how the team models active collaboration and leverage everyone’s strengths and contributions, and demonstrate, mutual respect, inclusivity, and trust.  

 Award 

  • The Outstanding Program of the Year award will receive a certificate and a small token of appreciation from the KC. The award will be presented at the 2024 Annual Conference in Seattle.

Nominators or applicants will be asked to provide the following information for the recipientbe considered for this award.  

  • Information for all team members (Names, positions, email address, and unit name) 

  • Brief citation (100-word limit): Summary describing the achievements of the nominee and how they meet the criteria. In writing the citation copy, please compose it to be read aloud easily at the awards ceremony.

  • How has the nominee demonstrated the criteria listed in the award description? 

  • Evidence that shows how the nominee changed the landscape of the university and/or the student body by highlighting the importance towards coaching.

2024 Annual Conference

Join us in NASPA for our joint KC Reception with the Orientation, Transition, and Retention KC, Student Affairs Partnering with Academic Affairs KC, and Student Career Development KC on Monday, March 11 from 5:30pm - 7:00pm in the Hyatt Regency 301-Ashnola.  Everyone is welcome to attend our reception. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be in the main reception area.

Also stop by the SCKC table at the Communities Fair on Sunday, March 10 from 3:30pm - 4:30pm in the Summit Olympic View Lounge.
