Tamekia M Scott serves as the assistant dean for academic achievement at Ohio University. In her role, she is responsible for academic support services for the university. Tamekia completed her doctorate in adult and higher education at Northern Illinois University. Her passion and dissertation study have given her the opportunity to implement programs and services that unite social justice, diversity, and inclusion with student services in higher education. She continues to draw from the argument that issues of “isms” are still happening in our institutions; thus, those that experience injustices have to share their stories. Not to dwell on what is wrong with the system without a call to action to fix it. It is by sharing such stories of resistance that people will feel empowered to speak up, meet adversities head on, and develop future programs and services that implement needed change for our colleagues and the students we serve.
