Mariama Ibrahim is a recent graduate of East Carolina University where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Molecular Cell Biology with a Minor in Leadership studies. As an undergraduate student, Mariama was heavily involved within the Division of Student Affairs, serving in SGA as the Student Body Attorney General and Assembly Representative as well as on numerous student organizations in leadership roles. As an African American Woman at a predominately white institution such as East Carolina, Mariama knows first-hand what it is like to be marginalized and has made it her mission to challenge the establishment and advocate for social and organizational change, all the way to the Board of Trustees. She has taken this commitment and passion with her to graduate school and is now pursuing a Master’s Degree at the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Addiction Research and Clinical Health.
