Edward F. Martinez, Ed. D. is a first-generation college student who has extensive administrative, academic, and program development experience in higher education marked by numerous leadership roles in student affairs. Throughout his diverse 25-year career, Dr. Martinez has enjoyed the pleasure of overseeing and supervising several departments within student affairs. Areas include, but are not limited to: college placement and testing, academic advising, career services, mental health, disability services, admissions, registrar, financial aid, disability services, student life, residence life, and judicial affairs. An advocate for student access, his research interests focus on the narratives of students and professionals in the community college sector.
Dr. Martinez currently works as the associate dean for student affairs which serves as the campus senior student affairs officer at Suffolk County Community College- the largest multi-campus community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) System. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from Dominican College, a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Development from Long Island University, and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from Dowling College. Dr. Martinez has held numerous national leadership positions within NASPA, including the 2018-2019 Chair of the Community College Division -Latinx/a/o Task Force, a member of the 2015-2020 Leadership Team for the Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community, and currently serves as the 2020-2022 National Community College Division Director.
