Dr. Anita Hicks

 Anita Hicks, EdD, is the Associate Director of the Oakland Center, at Oakland University.  The Center is a self-sustaining auxiliary operation where she oversees operations, including over 8,000 annual events and employs a forward-thinking approach to developing, contracting, and managing profitable public and private-sector partnerships for food services, bookstore operations, conferencing and events, summer
camps, and campus grounds rentals.

In her role at the Oakland Center, Dr. Hicks also served as the only woman on the both the design and construction teams for the $44 million dollar building expansion. She previously worked for the Detroit Pistons, where she held a leadership position and directed teams in sponsorship marketing.

Dr. Hicks diligently works with community groups in the region and serves in on boards such as the Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan, the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Michigan, and Zonta International. She is a mentor as well as committee member for numerous educational organizations, including NACAS, Women of Color STEM Conference, and Chair of NASPA’s knowledge community. She is involved in OU engagement initiatives including Co-Chair of the Adult Learner Initiative, member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, Co-Chair of the Emergency Operations LETF Committee guiding the university during the COVID pandemic, Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards, and Student to Success Conference.

Dr. Hicks was selected as the 2017 Faculty Research Scholar of the Year for her teaching and service excellence as an associate faculty member at the University of Phoenix.  In 2018, she made history as the first graduate of the Oakland University Doctorate of Education program and was selected as a 2019 Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellence and also selected by the university President to serve as one of two institutional representatives for MI-ACE.
