Christine Gettings is the Director of International Programs and Partnerships in the School of International Service at American University. In this capacity, she manages the development, implementation, promotion and assessment of the international programs in SIS, including dual-degree programs, semester exchange programs, faculty-led programs, and the first joint-undergraduate degree program between a university in the United States and Japan.

Previously, she served as the Assistant Director of Global Learning and Leadership at American University where she directed the the Alternative Break program and other global community-based learning experiences. Christine has designed and facilitated trainings, seminars, and workshops on student leadership and civic engagement, ethical global volunteering, diversity and inclusion, risk management and travel safety, intercultural communication, and the role of reflection in service-learning. Christine has served as an adjunct faculty in the School of Education at American University She has led university programs to the Thailand-Burma border to explore  the Burmese democracy movement and the experiences of communities displaced by conflict in Thailand. Additionally, she led programs to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland with students to study peacebuilding in divided societies.  


Christine served as the Co-Chair of and Region II Representative to the NASPA International Education Knowledge Community (IEKC).
