Please note: Time zones are listed in Eastern.

Learn about NASPA’s exciting development of a voluntary, professional certification program to assess the current experience, knowledge, and skills of student affairs educators!

Join the NASPA Executive Leadership for a live briefing on certification for student affairs educators. The NASPA Board of Directors recently approved the initial development of a certification for student affairs educators after an extensive market analysis. This analysis raised important questions and insights into how the potential of certification in student affairs might impact life-long learning in the profession. A certification can benefit individual professionals, enhance the credibility and integrity of the profession, and engage student affairs educators in emerging content areas.

This live briefing will introduce the background, rationale, and concept for student affairs educator certification. The presenters will detail the plan for developing the certification program including how member input will be critical in guiding this process.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this live briefing, participants will learn:

  • what is meant by professional certification, including how it is distinct from a certificate;
  • the findings from a market analysis of vice presidents, new and mid-level professionals, and faculty members regarding the perceived benefits and questions about certification;
  • the three major phases of the certification development process, including opportunities for individual and member engagement; and
  • about the plan for general student affairs certification and specialty certification in functional areas.
