Dr. Margaret Sallee Appointed as NJAWHE Co-Editor

August 11, 2016

Margaret_Sallee_photoNASPA is pleased to announce that Dr. Margaret Sallee has been appointed to serve as co-editor of the NASPA Journal About Women in Higher Education (NJAWHE). Her three-year term will begin in March 2017.

Dr. Sallee is an associate professor of higher education at the University at Buffalo. Since 2014 she has served on the NJAWHE Editorial Board as the book review editor, providing constructive feedback to authors. She is the author of the book Faculty Fathers: Toward a New Ideal in the Research University (SUNY Press, 2014), which focuses on gender and related issues. Her publications also include several book chapters and scholarly articles in a wide range of journals, including NJAWHE.

Dr. Sallee’s research utilizes feminist theory and a gender lens to investigate the experiences of faculty and students navigating university environments. She uses a critical lens to examine the intersection of individual experiences and organizational culture to interrogate the ways in which gender and other social identities operate on college campuses. At the individual level, she considers how men and women have different experiences, both within the professoriate and in graduate school. At the organizational level, she considers how the practices of various departments and the university as a whole produce a culture that privileges one gender over others. Bringing these two lenses together, she frequently considers how individual experiences are shaped by the culture and practices of the university. Her work focuses on the ways in which gender is both an individual and an organizational construct and the consequences this has for those who populate colleges and universities.
