NASPA Conference Public Policy Programs — Town Hall Meeting
Gulf Conference in Qatar

The Qatar Foundation hosted the NASPA-ACPA Gulf Region Conference at Hamad bin Khalifa University in Education City located in Doha, Qatar. The conference theme was Sustainable Strategies for Student Success and was attended by those who work within Student Affairs across the Gulf Region, parts of Europe, and beyond. The beautiful Hamad bin Khalifa University Student Center provided the site for our meetings and the majority of events while offering a state-of-the-art facility for networking and learning. Alabama Drive-In Conference
Six months of planning came to fruition on Friday, January 27, 2012 with the convening of the statewide NASPA - Alabama Drive-In Conference held at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. With over 180 attendees representing 22 institutions from around the state, the conference exceeded expectations. The conference theme, "Alabama 2020: Reconnecting and Envisioning Our Future," provided the framework for the day. Full Story

Higher Education Associations Launch New Online Compliance Resource
The National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Higher Education Compliance Alliance (www.higheredcompliance.org)—a new online resource devoted to helping the higher education community comply with the ever-growing body of federal law and regulation that affects colleges and universities. A Year of Forward-Looking Change

 This will be my last entry into the Forum as the president of NASPA. It does not seem possible a year has gone by so quickly, yet the calendar tells me differently. Fortunately, I will have the opportunity to see many of you in Phoenix as we come together to discover ways to enact change for the betterment of our students' future. There is excitement around the speakers chosen, the learning, the variety of programs, the good weather, and meeting up with close and new colleagues at the 2012 NASPA Conference. I even heard the hiking trip is full. I am so appreciative of the Planning Committee's hard work to prepare a rich learning environment. Full Story

Ted K. Miller Achievement of Excellence Award
The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) recently awarded Texas A&M at Corpus Christie with its most prestigious honor, the Ted K. Miller Achievement of Excellence Award. Dr. Amanda Drum, Director of Assessment and Housing, along with Dr. Eliot Chenaux, Vice President of Student Affairs received the award on behalf of the Student Affairs Division. The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in advancing standards of practice and quality assurance in educational programs and services in higher education, with the goal of enhancing student learning. Jim Conneely Named President of Notre Dame of Maryland University
Dr. James F. Conneely was named Notre Dame of Maryland University's 12th president on February 23 and the first male president in the university's 116-year history. Full Story
Mourning the Loss of St. Albans Native Dr. Robert C. LaLance Jr.
Dr. Robert C. LaLance Jr., the longest-serving vice president in Middle Tennessee State University's history, passed away on January 6 at the age of 72. Full Story

Knowledge Community Chairs-Elect 2012-2013
NASPA congratulates the following members who were elected as national chairs-elect for their Knowledge Communities (KCs). They will begin a 1-year chair-elect term at the close of the NASPA Annual Conference in Phoenix. These members will then serve their 2-year term as national chair from March 2013 through March 2015. NASPA Staff Running for a Cause
On Thursday, March 1st, NASPA Senior Fellow Ed Whipple and Director of Member Engagement and Community Programs Joey DeSanto Jones joined Steve Good in his 50-mile, eight-state run to raise money for the ALS Association to fight Lou Gehrig's Disease. Full Story
CAS Announces New Publication
CAS announced it will suspend all sales of its current publications effective April 15, 2012, and will start immediately taking orders for its new publications to be released on August 1, 2012. In the interim, if colleagues want to purchase publications, they should realize that the 7th edition of the CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education will be replaced with the 8th edition.
