In July 2010 NASPA and ACPA jointly endorsed Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Practitioners (PCASAP), which includes a defined and articulated competency area for law, policy and governance (LPG).  For the first time NASPA  is now proud to offers an intensive {23} hour residential certificate program specifically designed to develop and enhance skills, attitudes and knowledge related to the articulated competencies endorsed by ACPA and NASPA in the LPG area of competency.  This is the only program of its type; and the only certificate program specifically recommended for members of NASPA and ASCA.

It is vital that university administrators appreciate and understand the critical legal and regulatory issues that impact their work.  A wide variety of student-affairs professionals — ranging from entry-level to senior professionals — will benefit from this program.  The program is designed to provide student-affairs professionals with information and skills to develop and end enhance competency in LGP competency area.  The program will provide information and skill development to develop basic LGP competency in all identified categories and enhance or develop competency in many intermediate and advanced competency categories as well.  Moreover, the program will address various "hot topics," in higher education law as a context for developing competencies while ensuring that participants learn core legal concepts that will help them work through recurring issues.

The program will provide demanding and intensive instruction and time for informal collaborative learning in a world class resort setting. This program will be a prerequisite for admission into later anticipated intermediate and advanced level certificate programs.  Admission to the initial certificate program cohort will be limited to 20 students. This program will be residentially based.  The location will be convenient to both the Tampa International Airport and Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.
