Zenobia Hikes Memorial Award

The Dr. Zenobia Lawrence Hikes Memorial Award is sponsored by the NASPA Center for Scholarship, Research, and Professional Development for Women (Center for Women) to recognize NASPA members with at least ten years of full time work in Student Affairs who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women in higher education and to student affairs, through mentoring and professional development activities; have a strong evidence of contributions to the
development of students as engaged citizens and ethical leaders; and have a record of community service to the profession and locally. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply or be nominated.

The Center for Women named this award in honor of Dr. Zenobia Lawrence Hikes.   Dr. Hikes passed away suddenly on October 27, 2008, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was Vice President of Student Affairs at Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg, VA. Dr. Hikes was a remarkable woman who embodied the mission of the Center, working for the equality of women throughout her life. As a talented educator, advocate, and mentor, Zenobia led an inspiring life. A pillar of her community,
she had a zest for education and a devoted love for her family. Dr. Hikes' used her courageous spirit and compassionate nature to promote academic excellence in her students and to assist persons in need.


The recipient will receive a plaque presented at the Center for Women Reception at the NASPA Annual Conference, and a registration fee waiver to send a student of her/his choice to the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders.
All nominations must be received by November 30, 2012.  The award winner will be notified no later than December 15, 2012.

~ Two letters of recommendation that address the award criteria from a supervisor, colleague or peer in the field or from a student
