ACPA Voting Breakdown

  • 42% of eligible voters cast a ballot
  • 81% in favor of consolidation
  • 19% in opposition to consolidation

2/3 majority required for passage

We have just concluded an historic vote by members of ACPA and NASPA on whether or not to move forward with the creation of a new association through consolidation. We have learned today that ACPA and NASPA members have voted to maintain separate associations. Additional information on the results will be posted on each association's website.

Each association possesses long and proud histories and legacies of significant contributions to the scholarship and practice of student development and learning. At this time, it is our intention to lead each association with its respective visions, while at the same time, continue to encourage and support our ongoing collaborative efforts.

We sincerely thank the work of the Consolidation Steering Team, the NASPA Board of Directors, ACPA Governing Board, and all the members who contributed to the Proposal for the Consolidation of ACPA and NASPA for their hard work and dedication to this effort. We realize that much time was spent ensuring our members were well informed about the process, and we assure you that their work will not be in vain. Much of what was learned through this process of creating the model for a new association will be utilized to strengthen our associations and serve our members in more relevant and effective ways.

Our associations brought the question of consolidation to a vote in order to reach a conclusion on this very important and lingering issue. We are pleased the opportunity was made available. We want to thank everyone who participated in and contributed to this process by voicing your positions, maintaining your blogs, working on the proposal, participating in lively discussions and casting your vote.

It is now time to focus on the future of our profession. Each association in its unique way will continue working with its members and partners by offering outstanding leadership, scholarship and a commitment to our students, the profession and higher education. Though the outcome of the vote may not reflect your personal hope for consolidation, let's all be mindful to ensure that our future endeavors and efforts directly strengthen the profession within higher education.

Sincerely,
