Entering college students may have questions about their spirituality as they interact with peers of different spiritual or religious faiths. For African American students at primarily white institutions, their spirituality may serve as a source of strength as they face race-related challenges in their institutional environment. This session will discuss results of a qualitative study done with African American students at a faith based institution, some promising practices on how students’ spirituality may provide support for their success and persistence, and an opportunity for participants to engage in discussion about how to develop programs that encourage students to explore questions of meaning and spirituality.
